on Saturday as part of his first visit to the
county. The Cliffs of Moher was the first stop and
here Ambassador Luo was welcomed by the Mayor of
Clare. The Ambassadors party enjoyed a guided tour
of the Cliffs followed by a visit to the Burren
Smokehouse in Lisdoonvarna, lunch at Burren Fine
Wine & Foods near Ballyvaughan and visit to
Poulnabrone Portal Tomb.
Date: 11-Nov-2011An unexpected early announcement by the New 7 Wonders Foundation of the top ranking 14 candidates in the New 7 Wonders of Nature online global contest were announced at 4pm on Friday 11th November 2011. The Cliffs of Moher, Ireland’s finalist in the global campaign, did not appear in the list and therefore the Cliffs cannot now be named among the New 7 Wonders of Nature when the final results of the four years long are announced later tonight at 7.07pm.

On his first visit to the Cliffs of Moher, the Senior Team Manager was accompanied by Marco Tardelli, Assistant Manager and was met by the Mayor of Clare, Councillor Pat Hayes and staff at the internationally renowned tourist attraction.

Visitor numbers at the Cliffs of Moher visitor attraction in County Clare jumped by 19% in the first six months of 2011, compared to the same period in 2010.
Figures released today show that visitor numbers hit 345,398 in the first half of the year, which typically accounts for 40% of overall annual visitors to the world famous visitor attraction. Visitor numbers also jumped last month to 107,740 from 96,462 in June 2010, an increase of 12%.

Schoolchildren from across north Clare took part in a spectacular visual display at the Cliffs of Moher on Tuesday 7th September as part of the tourist attraction’s campaign to be selected as one of the ‘New7Wonders of Nature’.
700 primary school children formed a giant ‘7’ on the cliff side and simultaneously released 700 biodegradable balloons, marking the start of the ‘Great Cliffs Balloon Race’.

Monday July 5th Cadbury today unveiled Paul Ruane’s Cliffs of Moher design as the first ever consumer-created wrapper for the iconic Cadbury Dairy Milk bar in Ireland. Clare man Paul’s design was chosen after a nationwide campaign following the Cadbury Dairy Milk task on TV3’s The Apprentice. The design will now appear on the front of over 600,000 Cadbury Dairy Milk bars made in Ireland.

Date: 05-Jun-2009O’Brien’s Tower, the iconic landmark that stands on a headland at the mighty Cliffs of Moher, was officially re-opened by Mayor of Clare, Councillor Madeleine Taylor-Quinn, on Wednesday 3rd June 2009, following substantial restoration and conservation works. The tower was built in 1835 by local landowner Cornelius O’Brien as a viewing point for the 19th century visitors which were already flocking to view the famous scenic beauty spot.

The Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience hosted a sell out concert on Thursday 4th September when singer-songwriter Declan O’Rourke played to an eager audience in the Ledge Theatre. The concert was the first of its kind staged in the new visitor centre and the two hundred strong crowd who attended the event enjoyed an intimate evening with one of Ireland’s most talented and acclaimed musical talents at this extraordinary and exclusive venue.

Clare have been hailed by disability groups including the Disabled People of Clare & People with Disabilities in Ireland. The visitor centre, which is an initiative of Clare County Council, opened to the public in February 2007 but the creation in May 2008 of additional disabled parking bays near the visitor centre building has made the iconic visitor attraction all the more accessible to visitors with disabilities.
