{"id":3433,"date":"2021-04-20T10:25:05","date_gmt":"2021-04-20T10:25:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cliffsofmoher.ie\/?p=3433"},"modified":"2022-07-22T10:05:42","modified_gmt":"2022-07-22T10:05:42","slug":"public-consultation-on-future-strategy-for-the-cliffsofmoher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cliffsofmoher.ie\/en\/public-consultation-on-future-strategy-for-the-cliffsofmoher\/","title":{"rendered":"Public consultation on future strategy for the Cliffs of Moher"},"content":{"rendered":"April 20th 2021,\r\n\r\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Cliffs of Moher Strategy 2040\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dgQGQPNjCh8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\r\n\r\nMembers of the public, community organisation\u2019s and tourism stakeholders are being asked for their input on the formulation of a long-term strategy for the Cliffs of Moher.\u00a0\u00a0Clare County Council is working, with a multi-disciplinary consultancy team led by Haley Sharpe Design, to prepare the Cliffs of Moher Strategy 2040.\r\n\r\nThe Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience is the most visited natural attraction in Ireland attracting 1.6m visitors during 2019.\u00a0 The popular visitor site is also a signature discovery point on F\u00e1ilte Ireland\u2019s Wild Atlantic Way, the main Geosite of the Burren &amp; Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Geopark, a Special Protected Area for Birds and Wildlife and is a wholly-owned tourism asset of Clare County Council.\r\n\r\n<strong>Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council, Councillor Mary Howard<\/strong>\u00a0commented, \u201cWith the public\u2019s support, Clare County Council aims to identify and address key challenges and opportunities for the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience and the wider Clare tourism sector during the coming months. The public\u2019s participation in the preparation process is crucial so that the proposals can address everybody\u2019s aspirations for the Cliffs and the benefits it can bring to the county.\u201d\r\n\r\nThe focus of the strategy development process to date has been on extensive preliminary research, on-site investigations, and desktop studies to understand the challenges facing the Cliffs of Moher and to identify potential opportunities for helping to realise future aspirations.\r\n\r\n\u201cWe now need local communities, organisations, schools, businesses, and residents, to be involved and help us,\u201d explained\u00a0<strong>Leonard Cleary, Director of Rural Development, Clare County Council<\/strong>.\u00a0 \u201cThe collective feedback that we receive will play an important role in confirming key issues for the future development at the Cliffs.\u201d\r\n\r\nMr. Cleary noted that the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience has important economic benefits for Clare and the revenue it generates also supports other tourism projects across the County\u2019s four Municipal Districts.\r\n\r\n\u201cThe strategy is focused on creating world-class experiences, enhancing the special qualities of the site and growing the Cliffs of Moher\u2019s contribution to the county in a sustainable way,\u201d he explained. \u00a0\u201cThe Strategy is a joint initiative between Clare County Council and F\u00e1ilte Ireland and it will inform future developments at the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience. Capacity issues, a requirement for upgrade and investment, sparked the necessity to set out a sustainable future for the site and to maximise the economic benefit to County Clare for the next 20 years and beyond.\u201d\r\n\r\n<strong>Geraldine Enright, Director of the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience<\/strong>, described the public consultation process as \u201ccomprehensive\u201d and added it is intended that a \u201cwide net will be cast to enable participation in this listening process.\u201d\r\n\r\nMs. Enright said the consultation will take many forms including online workshops, feedback sessions, focus groups, written submissions, and surveys.\r\n\r\n\u201cThere will be many opportunities for the public and interested stakeholders to have their say and these will be widely publicised throughout the county,\u201d she stated. \u00a0\u201cThis process will begin in late April or early May with display information and online question and answer sessions to ensure conversation and stimulate debate on the key issues.\u201d\r\n\r\n<em>The first stage of the Consultation Process is closing on 24<\/em><em><sup>th<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0September 2021. Any further submissions or comments should be forwarded prior to that date<\/em><a href=\"mailto:com2040@haleysharpe.com\"><em>\u00a0com2040@haleysharpe.com<\/em><\/a>\r\n\r\n<em>The second stage of the Consultation Process will focus on the Draft Masterplan Proposals.
