Supporting Local Suppliers

Supporting local suppliers and producers is important to us for a number of reasons. Buying local will benefit the community economically and showcase quality local produce to our visitors. It also cuts down on fossil fuels needed to transport goods to us, helping to reduce our carbon footprint.

We try to source as many products as possible from local suppliers, from environmentally friendly cleaning agents to building materials. For example, Irish oak was used for the visitor centres’ internal doors and local Liscannor flag stone used throughout the site was quarried nearby.

Co Clare is rich in top quality food producers and the Cliffs View Café serves delicious meals using locally produced ingredients. The gift shop stocks quality products from local businesses like the Burren Perfumery and the Clare Jam shop.

There are also many talented artists and photographers in the locality who regularly hold exhibitions of their work in the visitor centre and art prints are often available to buy. Here’s some more information on some of our local food producers.

One of Ireland’s most famous sights, the Cliffs of Moher are entirely vertical and the cliff edge is abrupt. On a clear day the views are tremendous, with the Aran Islands etched on the waters of Galway Bay. From the cliff edge you can just hear the booming far below as the waves crash and gnaw at the soft shale and sandstone.

With a due-west exposure, sunset is the best time to visit.
