Two Mile Gate Lakeside Park & Ballycuggeran Woods

Two Mile Gate Lakeside Park & Ballycuggeran Woods

A few minutes outside the town of Killaloe is Two Mile Gate Lakeside Amenity Park. It is a designated Blue Flag bathing area. There is also a picnic area with amazing views of Lough Derg located on the shore of Lough Derg.  This is a wonderful location to feed the ducks, relax and enjoy the wonderful scenery that Lough Derg has to offer.

Across the road is Ballycuggeran Woods, an impressive oak wood with panoramic views of Lough Derg from its highest point. The woods have looped walking trails (Crag Wood) forming part of the East Clare Way and mountain bikes are used also in the woods. There is a small car park inside the entrance to Ballycuggeran where you can park.  Resting benches are located along the trail where you can sit an take in the views of Lough Derg.

Both locations are an excellent way to spend a fine day, walking the loop and then relaxing on the lakeshore.

UL Sports Adventure Centre is located next to these attractions where groups can get on the water and try canoeing, sailing, dragon boating etc.

One of Ireland’s most famous sights, the Cliffs of Moher are entirely vertical and the cliff edge is abrupt. On a clear day the views are tremendous, with the Aran Islands etched on the waters of Galway Bay. From the cliff edge you can just hear the booming far below as the waves crash and gnaw at the soft shale and sandstone.

With a due-west exposure, sunset is the best time to visit.
