Vandeleur Walled Garden

Vandeleur Walled Garden

Vandeleur Walled Garden is a sheltered walled garden, formerly part of the Vandeleur Family Demesne and covering 2.158 acres, is set among 420 acres of native woodland. It was restored around the old paths with a horizontal maze, unusual water features and a Victorian-style working glasshouse. The former fruit and vegetable garden now specialises in many unusual and tender plants that thrive in the areas unique western micro-climate. A wide variety of plants are also available for sale.

Children can enjoy playing in the kids area and follow the butterfly trail. A collection of old farm machinery enhances the courtyard area. Facilities also include the Woodland Bistro serving breakfast, lunch and home-made treats. There is a gift shop and conference room hire is also available.

‘The Vandeleur Picture Exhibition’ and the ‘Exhibition Kilrush in Landlord Times’ are on display in the visitor centre. Several events are being held throughout the year concluding with a visit from Santa Claus. Entry is free for 2016.

One of Ireland’s most famous sights, the Cliffs of Moher are entirely vertical and the cliff edge is abrupt. On a clear day the views are tremendous, with the Aran Islands etched on the waters of Galway Bay. From the cliff edge you can just hear the booming far below as the waves crash and gnaw at the soft shale and sandstone.

With a due-west exposure, sunset is the best time to visit.
