Cliffs of Moher Coastal Walk

Coastal Walk North

The Cliffs of Moher Coastal Walk connects the lively villages of Liscannor and Doolin, via the Cliffs of Moher Experience. A linear route of 20km, it takes 4.5 hours to complete.

The Cliffs of Moher walk to Doolin section brings you to Doolin Village and back.

This is a stunningly beautiful trail of medium to high difficulty that is suitable for a wide range of people and is a great way of spending a morning. A distance of eight kilometres – or five miles – it takes about two hours each way to complete.

Be aware that weather conditions can change suddenly; strong onshore wind can suddenly change to off-shore as the wind eddies on the higher sections of the cliff. Heavy fog is common which can result in localised spots of poor visibility. The terrain is exposed clifftop path, with narrow and steep ascents, flagstone steps, farm tracks, local and regional roads. Ask our guides for advice if needed.

If you decide to take the walk, please abide by the principles of Leave No Trace and The Burren Code by being well prepared for your walk, following trail notices, taking home your rubbish and minimising the impact on the environment.

Coastal Walk South

Leaving the Cliffs of Moher Experience southwards, the walk from the Cliffs of Moher to Hags Head is not too difficult. Most of the trail is relatively flat, and measuring 5.6km in length it will take approximately 1.5-2 hours to complete.

The path has recently been upgraded, however after 1km the terrain becomes rough and uneven in places. The walk is exposed to the elements so wind can make the Coastal Walk more challenging. Appropriate clothing and footwear is required. The scenery on the southern section between the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Centre and Hags Head (Kilconnel) is impressive and serene.

Make sure to take a moment to turn and look back when you progress on your adventure – the views are quite dramatic! The Cliffs are so tall, their vertical edge make a sheer drop into the ocean. It is wild, rugged Ireland at its best!

A stone wall and a gate will lead to a rural road which brings the journey to an end.

We would like to remind you that the coastal trail is unsuitable for children and dogs. Fatalities can occur when visitors do not heed warning signs posted on the route.

Access to emergency services is challenging and casualties on the trail must wait for help.

New signage has been erected at the Cliffs of Moher Experience boundaries at the start of the coastal trail. We hope this will better inform visitors of the dangers of walking the trail, especially close to the cliff edge. Thank you in advance for your co-operation and please ensure your own safety by staying within the official Cliffs of Moher Experience site.
