Day 1
Morning
Make your journey to the East of County Clare to the shores of Lough Derg. Nestled at the foothills of the Slieve Aughty Mountain range, Mountshannon village offers a picturesque view that stretches out over the expanse of one of Ireland’s largest lakes.
Make the short boat trip to one of most famous monastic sites in Ireland Inis Cealtra (Holy Island). On your trip be sure to look out for Ireland’s largest bird the White Tailed Sea Eagle. Spend the morning exploring this historic settlement that dates back to the 6th century.
Day 1
Afternoon
On your return to Mountshannon take the short walk to Cois na hAbhna to quell your hunger from a morning of exploration. Sit back and enjoy the magnificent views of Lough Derg and its magnificent encompassing mountains.
It’s a perfect opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty and serenity of the surroundings while you tuck into a hearty Irish meal.
Day 1
Evening
Once you have recharged the batteries walk towards the Aister Park. Within the park, you’ll discover a playground and a maze that beautifully portray Ireland’s spiritual history spanning thousands of years, all within a serene sanctuary that harmonises with the village’s relaxing atmosphere.
Once you have finished exploring the park continue your walk towards one of Clare’s most scenic bathing areas. This international Blue Flag beach is patrolled by lifeguards throughout the summer months.
Day 1
Night
Having taken in everything this tranquil little village has to offer its time to relax and indulge in delightful cuisine in The Snug. This cosy little restaurant is the perfect place to end your evening.
When it’s time for bed, make your way to Lakeside Caravan & Camping, where you have the option to camp under the stars or stay in waterfront holiday homes for a serene and comfortable retreat.
Day 2
Morning
From Mountshannon travel 8 kilometres to Scariff to the Garden Café. The Garden Café provides a fest of organic fruit and vegtables which are all grown in the Community Garden.
With everything sourced fresh from the garden, you can savour the exceptional flavours and freshness in every bite. This is the best way to kickstart your day which will be full of excitement
Day 2
Afternoon
Now it is time for a fun filled trip to West Lake Aqua Park. This is a guaranteed epic adventure for everyone to enjoy. The Aqua Park is located in Ballycuggeran which is a fifteen minute drive from Scariff. Ballycuggeran is another one of Clare’s eight Blue Flag Beaches. There are also woodland walks surrounding Ballycuggeran which offer spectacular views of the Lough.
After all of that action packed adventure it is time to stop off in Tuamgraney for lunch in Nuala’s Bar and Restaurant which has been serving locals and visitors since 1850.
Day 2
Evening
Now it is time to make the short walk to Wilde Irish Chocolate. Where you will witness the beautiful creation of more than 80 different types of chocolate. Why not build your own chocolate bar, get a tour of the factory and sample some of the very best chocolate they have to offer.
From here go back towards Tuamgraney village and step into The East Clare Heritage Centre which is based in 10th century St. Cronan’s Church. Here you will follow Brian Ború, High King of Ireland’s footsteps who once frequented and refurbished this church which is one of the oldest in the World that is still in use.
Day 2
Night
Staying the night in Clareville House where you will receive the very best hospitality and tips of everything else East Clare has to offer.
Now it is time to experience Pepper’s Bar and Restaurant which dates back to 1810. Renowned with Irish Traditional Music where musicians come from all over the world to play. Immerse yourself in the rich flavours of authentic Irish cuisine while savouring the lively atmosphere and music accompanied by a refreshing pint of Guinness.
Day 3
Morning
Arise to a freshly made breakfast in Clareville House which will set you up for what is in store for the day.
On your way towards Killaloe you will stop off to climb Clare’s tallest mountain Moylussa standing at 528 metres. For most of the hike the difficulty is generally moderate and should take no more than 3 hours. The panoramic views are incredible as you overlook Lough Derg.
Day 3
Afternoon
Having worked up an appetite continue onto the historic and scenic town of Killaloe which lies on the mouth of the River Shannon.
Stop off in RAW Interiors & Café where you can choose from Coffee to Cakes and from Pizza to Panuzz. You will be reenergised to continue your afternoon along the banks of the ‘Broad Majestic Shannon’.
Day 3
Evening
Now it is time to take a journey along the River Shannon with Killaloe River Cruises. You will embark on a voyage towards the historic site of Beal Ború, where Brian Ború, the High King of Ireland, once guarded the river crossing.
As you cruise into the tranquil waters of Lough Derg, nestled amidst the majestic Slieve Bernagh and Arra Mountains, the breathtaking panoramic vista will unfold before your eyes.
Day 3
Night
Stay the night locally in The Killaloe Hotel and Spa. Here you will experience the charm of a delightful boutique hotel situated just a leisurely stroll away from the enchanting twin villages of Killaloe and Ballina.
Enjoy one of Killaloe’s best known gastropubs The Pipers Inn which is renowned for its great food, warm welcome and cosy bar. If you fancy some more live music you are sure to find some in one of the town’s many pubs.
