Valentine’s Day 2021

Valentine’s Day Stories

Valentine’s Day, also called Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine is celebrated annually on February 14. Valentine’s Day originated as a Western Christian feast day honoring one or two early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine and later through folk traditions, has become a significant cultural and commercial celebration of romance and love all over the world. It was commonly believed that February 14th was the beginning of birds’ mating season, which added to the idea that Valentine’s Day should be a day for romance.

We have our own romance story here at the cliffs. It is two part, the love of a husband and wife and the love of a grandchild that came to the Cliffs of Moher and commemorated her grandparents love forever.

Many years ago, a visitor called Victoria left a note and two sentimental items at O’Brien’s Tower. Victoria tucked the note and the items into a crevice in the wall of O’Brien’s Tower. Down through the years many visitors have “discovered” the note and been touched by the story. Our staff were always quick to put the note back where it was found.

In 2019 O’Brien’s Tower was renovated and the walls rendered back to their original state, but now there was no crevice to hold the note and items. One of our staff members framed the note and its contents so Victoria’s wish would be honored.

Victoria’s note stated “If you find these rings, please leave alone. My nana dreamed of coming to Ireland but passed away 10 years ago, and never made it. It was her dream, so I wanted to bring a piece of her here, so she could finally “make it”. These are my poppop and nana’s wedding bands of 35 years. If you find these, please let her stay where she dreamed to be. I love you Nana! We made it! Victoria”

We wanted to share this sweet gesture with you this Valentines Day to celebrate the love Victoria had for her Nana and Poppop and to celebrate their love they shared for 35 years.

Happy Valentine’s Day.
