Mother Nature and Mother’s Day at the Cliffs of Moher Experience
It has been a long winter, but we are happy to Spring is here and of course Mother’s Day. Spring welcomes the annual arrival of seabirds who choose the wonderfully peaceful and safe environment of the Cliffs to raise their young each year.
The Cliffs of Moher are designated as a Special Protected Area for birds under the EU bird’s directive and we are fortunate to attract internationally important numbers of Gillemot, Razorbill as well as significant numbers of Puffins, Kittiwakes, and Fulmar. From March the birds are courting and nesting and soon the Cliff edges, stack, and Goats’ Isalnd will become one giant nursery as the chick’s hatch. Mum and Dad must ensure they are fed, fledged, and ready for fleeing the nests by late July.
