East Clare Golf Club

East Clare Golf Club

The East Clare Golf Course is set in 150 acres of unspoilt, rolling, quiet countryside with majestic views of East Clare.

The championship course, designed by noted golf architect Dr. Arthur Spring, was opened in 1997 and is located just 5 minutes from beautiful Lough Derg and about 35 minutes from Shannon Airport. This par 71 course with more than 5,920 metres (over 6,500 yards) of fairways includes several strategically placed and potentially hazardous lakes, streams, bunkers and trees.

The course consciously supports a wide range of wildlife. Foxes can often be seen near the 4th and 8th tees, and swans can be found cruising on the numerous lakes. Islands are been developed in the centre of the 2nd and 9th lakes to provide a safe haven for nesting birds. These programmes were recognised when East Clare Golf Club won the AIB Environmental Award for the Munster Region in 2003.

The club operates on the basis of continuous improvement. During 2003 they completed an extensive programme of irrigation for the greens and development scheme for improving the lakes.

East Clare Golf Club operates a “pay as you play” policy for visitors ensuring visitors can be accommodated at all times. Club membership is also currently open to new members.

One of Ireland’s most famous sights, the Cliffs of Moher are entirely vertical and the cliff edge is abrupt. On a clear day the views are tremendous, with the Aran Islands etched on the waters of Galway Bay. From the cliff edge you can just hear the booming far below as the waves crash and gnaw at the soft shale and sandstone.

With a due-west exposure, sunset is the best time to visit.
